the thing I find amazing about Superman is that he's superpoweful but this little rock can turn him into a simple mortal,not only that but a really useless mortal man. it paralizes him and there is nothing he can do about it, he becomes completely harmless, and so anyone can put an end to his life. I consider that to be an interesting aspect in the Superman stories in the last years, because it puts a real weakness on a character that used to be unbeatable, so the stories from the 80's used to be really lame. But since the death of Superman the story arcs have been way more entertaining than before that event...
One of my favorite comics in wich Superman makes a great appearence is The Dark Knight Returns, even if it is really a Batman comic, the way these two characters interact with each other is amazing, and the final battle is really epic, perhaps the best battle between superheroes in comics I have ever seen. I recommend you see the Dark Knight Returns animation movie. Superman plays a big role on that one.
